🥩🍜 Discover “Hochin” – A Hidden Gem for Both BBQ & Ramen!

Today, I’d like to introduce Hochin, a local yakiniku (BBQ) restaurant located in the Iwama area of Kasama City.

The restaurant offers a variety of seating options — from regular tables and traditional tatami-style seating to cozy sunken kotatsu tables — making it perfect for families or relaxed gatherings.

Though known as a BBQ restaurant, the menu is surprisingly diverse, featuring everything from ramen and omelet rice to hearty set meals. Everything is generously portioned and affordably priced.

One of my personal favorites is the stir-fried vegetables — crispy, flavorful, and perfect with rice.
This time, I tried the Karubi Tanmen (noodles topped with grilled short ribs) for the first time, and it was absolutely delicious. The rich beef paired beautifully with the savory soup, making for a satisfying meal.

Located just a few minutes’ drive from the Iwama Interchange, Hochin is a great stop if you’re in the area.
Whether you’re in the mood for yakiniku or a hearty bowl of noodles, this spot is sure to satisfy!

🍴【Lunch Report】Hearty Pork Steak at Saibitei – A Long-Established Butcher’s Western-Style Restaurant in Kasama

I had lunch at Saibitei, a popular Western-style restaurant located in the Iwama area of Kasama City, Ibaraki.

What makes this place special is that it’s run by a long-standing local butcher, well-loved in the area for years. Their signature dish? A generously thick pork steak made with premium-brand pork from Ibaraki — and it’s absolutely mouthwatering.

Saibitei is so popular that it often has a long line, especially during lunch hours when reservations aren’t accepted. It’s usually a bit of a challenge to get in… but on this particular day, I decided to try my luck just before noon — and to my surprise, I was seated right away!
I couldn’t believe it — such a rare stroke of good fortune!

That day’s special lunch featured a ginger sauce, so I was expecting a classic shogayaki-style dish. But what arrived was a plate with a massive cut of pork, far thicker than I imagined.

From the moment I sliced into it, I could tell this was no ordinary dish. Every bite was packed with tender, juicy flavor. The natural sweetness of the fat and the thick, satisfying texture made it a truly indulgent meal.

The portion size was generous, and I left feeling completely full and deeply satisfied.

If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by to experience the amazing taste of “Rose Pork”, a local specialty. It’s a dining experience that won’t disappoint!

Double Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom Along Iwama Station East Odori Street 🌸

The Iwama Station East Odori Line, which connects the east exit of JR Iwama Station with National Route 355 Bypass, is currently bursting into full bloom!

Stretching approximately 1,480 meters, this road is lined with about 250 double cherry blossom trees. Right now, their soft, fluffy pink petals are at their peak, filling the street with vibrant color and gentle beauty.

As the blossoms sway in the breeze, they captivate everyone who passes by. Whether you’re walking along the well-maintained sidewalks or just driving through, you’ll be treated to the stunning sights of spring.

It’s a fleeting moment of seasonal magic—only available this time of year.
Why not take a stroll and enjoy the beauty up close?

【What Are Double Cherry Blossoms?】
Unlike the delicate five-petal cherry blossoms most people know, double cherry blossoms have many layers of petals—sometimes 30 or more! Their lush and voluminous look adds a unique charm to springtime scenes in Japan.

Cherry Blossom Spot in Kasama City – April 4, 2025

It’s been a chilly week with lots of rain, but the cherry blossoms are in full bloom!
The weather looks promising this weekend, so it should be a great time to enjoy the flowers.

The photo was taken in the evening, so it doesn’t quite capture the full beauty of the sakura — but they’re even more stunning in person!

Introducing “Tsuruyahonten” – A Beloved Local Eatery Since the Edo Period!

Today, let me introduce you to Tsuruyahonten, a long-standing local favorite in Kasama.
Believe it or not, this historic restaurant was founded in the late Edo period — over 100 years ago!

As soon as you step inside, you’re welcomed by a warm and nostalgic atmosphere unique to a long-established eatery. The interior exudes a calm, retro charm, and every dish reflects a deep commitment to quality ingredients.

This time, I had the Garlic Chive & Liver Set Meal (Nira Reba Teishoku).
No matter how many times I eat it, the flavor never fails to make me smile.

One of the must-try dishes here is the Motsuni Set Meal – tender, flavorful stewed pork tripe that pairs perfectly with rice.
I’ve already decided that’s what I’ll order on my next visit!

From its traditional exterior to its truly delicious food, Tsuruyahonten is a place well worth visiting — even if it means going a little out of your way.
If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend stopping by!
